Mrs. Cartledge’s 7th-grade Social Studies students have been hard at work over the last two weeks with interactive learning and deep research. Students recently challenged their geographical knowledge during a fast-paced speed review, where partners pointed to a country, landform, or body of water in Southeast Asia and had just three seconds to name it before swapping roles. Mrs. Cartledge's advanced students presented insightful research on the causes and effects of pollution in the Ganges River in India and the Yangtze River in China.

Reliving Middle School: Parents Step Into Their Students' Shoes at LCMS
On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, sixty-five parents at Lincoln County Middle School traded their afternoon for student desks, class schedules, and hallway bells during the school's annual "A Day in the Life" event.
Designed for families of 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-graders, the interactive evening gave parents a firsthand look at what their children experience each day. Participants navigated the school building, practiced walking in orderly lines between class periods, and squeezed into middle school desks for engaging teacher mini-lessons across subjects. The experience felt authentic down to the final bell—several teachers even assigned parents a bit of homework!
Bridging Open House and Daily Classroom Life
Held a few weeks into the school year, A Day in the Life serves as a vital bridge between initial orientation and everyday learning. While Open House introduces families to classrooms and syllabus expectations, this event gives parents direct access to teachers once daily routines are fully established.
Attendees could observe active instructional methods, learn about current curriculum goals, and ask follow-up questions that have come up during the first month of school.
Celebrating Positive Culture
The event also highlighted the school’s ongoing commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Every parent in attendance earned a PBIS scratch-off ticket for their student, allowing family participation to directly translate into a rewarding surprise for kids back home.

The administration and staff at Lincoln County Middle School extend a heartfelt thank you to all 65 parents who took time out of their busy evening schedules to sit in small chairs, switch classes, and walk the halls. Strong partnerships between home and school make a meaningful difference in student success, and the enthusiasm shown at "A Day in the Life" demonstrates the wonderful strength of the LCMS community.

Our students recently got a fun, nostalgic twist during class time:
Early finishers in Mrs. Wells' class traded screen time for traditional educational magazines. One student joked that he "felt like an old man reading a newspaper!" Another admitted he couldn't remember the last time she read a real, physical magazine.
Sometimes stepping away from the screens and getting back to the basics is the most refreshing way to learn!
